How to Do a Breast Self Exam

No matter whether a woman likes the size of her breast or if she dislikes the size of her chest and uses breast enhancement creams in order to make her chest larger, it is definitely advisable for a woman to make sure that she knows how to do a breast self-exam, or a BSE, on herself. Every year thousands of women are diagnosed with one form of breast cancer or another. Many women are under the misconception that all cancer in the chest is survivable as long as she has a mastectomy. While some cancer is survivable there are many types of cancer of the chest which carry with them a very low chance of survival, especially if it is not caught early on, which is why it’s so important for women to learn how to do a BSE on themselves.

When to Start

Some women believe that they don’t need to start checking for lumps until they’re in their 40’s, due, mainly, because physicians don’t often recommend a woman have a mammogram until she is in her 40’s. But in truth a woman should start checking her chest for lumps when she is in her early 20’s.

The reason for this? First it’s because women of all age can get cancer. Cancer doesn’t just affect women who are in their later years of life but also affects women of almost all ages. Those women who are young need to keep an eye on their chest area just as much as women who are older need to. It is also a good idea to keep an eye on the chest area so that a woman can know how her chest is supposed to feel. Women who start feeling for lumps in her body early will know how her chest feels when there is nothing wrong with it, so that if she were to actually have a lump she would know quickly that something is wrong.

The Procedure

Doing a BSE on yourself is very easy. To first do it you should lie down and put your right arm behind your head. When laying down the tissue spreads more evenly over the chest and anything unusual can be felt. If you’ve used a breast enlargement cream to help you to gain mass in your chest you’d feel your chest the same way you would if you had none, as breast enhancement creams make your own tissue expand to make a larger chest.

Then use the three middle fingers on your left hand to feel for lumps in the right side, and the three middle fingers of your right hand to feel for lumps on the left. If you feel anything unusual make sure that you call your physician.
